just one month after our fishermans bridge had been installed the highest rainfall ever recorded in britain caused a one-in-a-thousand year flood. john baxter who lives nearby filmed the bridge with the river in spate. his video was taken at 11:54am on the 29th november, 10 hours before the peak flow.

anecdotal evidence recorded the flood level at peak reaching the handrail, totally submerging the bridge deck. the bridge suffered minor damage to the submerged handrail, when a 1 tonne circular hay bale became trapped on an upright, twisting the steel.
